Vice

Whilst searching for a magazine to work in the style of, i came cross Vice, as they work very closely with American Apparal.
Vice is:
  • a free, internationally distributed lifestyle magazine passing out 910,000 copies worldwide of every issue,
  • available in 'living, breathing places' such as boutiques, bars, galleries and music stored as opposed to on the news stand which contributes to its 100% pick-up rate
  • these places are arguably where their target audience of 'trendsetting metropolitans aged 21-34' socialise,
  • paid for by the adverts in the magazine - brands include Nike, MTV, Adidas, Puma, Rockstar games - brands more associated with lifestyle than high-fashion which makes it more appealing to me as i want my work to be accessible for people my age who can't afford high end designer pieces,
  • known for showcasing new talent in the creative fields

Vice has a playful, quirky look, placing more emphasis on street style than high end fashion which is something i want to reflect - especailly as the pieces are made out of paper and not expensive fabrics! However, i looked at this magazine in detail for a previous styling project in Level 4 and still have the research, so i will try and find a new magazine to look at which is new to me, but hopefully has the same approach to fashion as Vice.
