I have begun to look at all things 'The Girls' in my sketchbook and found several artists i was unaware of who's work reflect the main themes of The Girls. The main thing i am trying to achieve is to create a unique print for my jewellery but some of my research has also influenced the shapes of my jewellery which can be seen on my design development sheets.
ALICE IN WONDERLAND - playful, exaggerated shapes, over-sized, twisted, warped, proportions, sinister, adventurous, maze, characters...
JEFF KOONS - loud, clashing, post-pop (an 80's movement), conceptual, contemporary. The last image is a collage i have created inspired by Koons and incorporating The Girls love of 80's love annuals. I have cut up an old annual for authentic imagery and layered it with magazine cuttings for a miss-match look.
ROB RYAN - intricate cut paper, delicate, feminine.Above is a piece i created based on the concept of The Paper Eaters exhibition. Although folding it and cutting it up will loose the pattern, it could be used as a poster to advertise the event. Rob Ryans work is incredible and unique, i think it is too fussy for The Girls as they like things a bit more dishevelled and grungy.
ORIGAMI - origami is the art of folding paper to make something 3D.
WALTER VAN BEIRENDONCK - v.bright colours, clashing prints, bold, simple silhouettes but loud vibrant prints/textiles, bad-taste.
